Mohammed “Big Moe” Saleh is a gym teacher by day and burger connoisseur by night. Together with his sister, Naticia, they are the faces of Big Moe’s Burgers.
Big Moe’s is the “Home of the Juicy Lucy” which, if you’re wondering, is a slice of cheese sandwiched in between two burger patties before cooking it. Every bite will cause you to yell, “My, that is one juicy lucy!” Originally invented in Minneapolis in 1954, it caught the eye of Big Moe who (lucky for us) decided to bring it to Toronto.
Big Moe loves a good burger – he’s tired of large corporations monopolizing the market and serving Canadians over-processed meats and frost bitten fries. Hence, his burgers are made by grinding their own beef that is bought daily, from a Halal butcher. Being Halal also means there are no pork products — so don’t ask for bacon! The meat goes through the grinder twice before being smashed (quite literally) onto the grill. “Smashed down burgers allow you to have a burger that is crispy on the outside, but juicy and succulent on the inside”, says Moe.
At its restaurants, Big Moe’s also sells various popular carnival snacks such as the Tornado Hot Dog, Funnel Cake and Waffle Fries! The Tornado Hot Dog is a grilled hotdog with an entire potato spiraled around it! Definitely a new and interesting take on the familiar street meat!
With its innovative – and genuine- approach to the burger scene, Big Moe’s Burgers is definitely one to keep your eye on. TO Food Fest is excited to have Big Moe back to bring his unique experience to your taste buds June 23, 2013! Massive burgers? With cheese stuffed inside? Cooked to perfection? Yes please!
