Big Moe’s Burgers

Does Big Moe’s Burgers have the best burgers in Toronto? This topic is certainly up for debate, especially with the recent burger renaissance that has been seen across the city recently. There is one thing that is not debatable about this place though – it is unique. From the innovative, never-before-seen, smashed Halal burgers to the funnel cake to the tornado fries, Big Moe’s Burgers offers an experience not yet seen by many Torontonians.

According to Moe, a good smashed-burger always starts with the meat itself. Each Halal burger is made from 100% never frozen, real meat. The meat goes through a grinder twice and is formed into 5oz spheres. From here, it is ready to go on the flat-top grill to be smashed down into the familiar burger shape and is seasoned to perfection. “Smashed down burgers allow you to have a burger that is crispy on the outside, but juicy and succulent on the inside”, says Moe.

Unique to Big Moe’s menu is the “Juicy Lucy”. This innovative burger turns the traditional cheese burger inside out – literally. Instead of having a slice of cheese on top of the burger, the cheese is inside the patty and melts as it cooks. When asked how he gets the cheese so perfectly inside the burger Moe explains, “It’s like the Caramilk bar.” Regardless of how he does it, the “Juicy Lucy” is one of the many interesting and delicious burgers that have brought Big Moe’s Burgers success since opening day, only 8 months ago.

In addition, Big Moe’s has burgers that can be ordered off menu, a la The Burger’s Priest. As Big Moe explains it, “Our Secret Menu is more of an experimental menu where we can try out new burgers and see our customers’ reactions.” There is a burger dubbed the “Give it to me Gravy” burger which puts a poutine on top of the patty. The “Big Moly” is a substantial 10oz burger. But the most interesting of all is the “Holy Moly”. Think of the “eggs in a basket” style eggs made popular in the movie V For Vendetta except with a burger patty instead of toast. This burger really needs to be eaten to be understood, but it might just be the best burger in Toronto.

Two more locations are opening soon (Lawrence and Warden, Dixie and Eglinton). Be sure not to miss their  Pay-What-You-Want promotion for the first 3 days of the grand openings for both locations. With it’s innovative take on the entire burger experience, it is easy to see why Big Moe’s is doing so well with it’s unique approach to the growing burger scene in Toronto. TO Food Fest is pleased to have Big Moe bring his unique experience to your taste buds on July 29, 2012.
